This article published by FranceInfo “Environnement : en Belgique, un chantier dantesque pour des autoroutes moins énergivores (francetvinfo.fr)”, is a Huge project in Belgium to save energy on highways.

Indeed, LUWA will replace on 2700km of road, 100,000 sodium lamps with LEDs and thus, aims to enhance 76 % energy savings. These LEDs will also be equipped with sensors to warn motorists of potential dangers.

This Belgian network will then be the first connected motorway network in Europe.
